Bioacoustics & Ecological Informatics

We currently are collecting data based on local observations but also developing technological solutions for ecosystem monitoring including bioacoustic monitoring and DIY nature cams based on open source systems.

The motivation for this work is threefold:

We are currently working on a bioacoustic environmental monitoring station based on the Cornell University's BirdNet https://birdnet.cornell.edu. Birdnet is an AI / Machine Learning project for bioacoustic monitoring and primarily bird identification though we are working on training the machine learning algorithm to include creatures we hear in the woods.

Some early outputs from the software looks like this: <fs x-small> Start (s),End (s),Scientific name,Common name,Confidence 15.0,18.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.3916 24.0,27.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.4638 27.0,30.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.2718 30.0,33.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.5427 33.0,36.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.3480 36.0,39.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.4312 39.0,42.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.5442 48.0,51.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.3489 54.0,57.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.6030 57.0,60.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.4175 57.0,60.0,Oriolus oriolus,Eurasian Golden Oriole,0.3474 60.0,63.0,Bubo bubo,Eurasian Eagle-Owl,0.3257 84.0,87.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.7239 102.0,105.0,Picus viridis,Eurasian Green Woodpecker,0.4023 102.0,105.0,Picus canus,Gray-headed Woodpecker,0.3601 102.0,105.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.2680 114.0,117.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.3151 117.0,120.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.3454 120.0,123.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.4209 120.0,123.0,Cyanistes caeruleus,Eurasian Blue Tit,0.2663 123.0,126.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.2702 129.0,132.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.7419 135.0,138.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.8457 138.0,141.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.9539 141.0,144.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.7130 144.0,147.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.7310 147.0,150.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.8515 150.0,153.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.4388 153.0,156.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.5787 156.0,159.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.6123 159.0,162.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.6121 168.0,171.0,Poecile palustris,Marsh Tit,0.4284 177.0,180.0,Phylloscopus bonelli,Western Bonelli's Warbler,0.3443</fs>
