Strategic Development Residency

In August 2023, Zavod Rizoma hosted Luka Frelih, president of Društvo Ljudmila — Ljubljana Digital Media Lab, for a week-long knowledge exchange residency at our rural site in Haloze.

Luka brought over two decades of experience running one of Slovenia's most established art and technology organisations. During his stay, activities included strategic consultation on developing Rizoma's artist-in-residence programme, hacklab infrastructure planning, and hands-on technical experimentation — including work on his ultrasound cracklebox synth instrument and experimental sound sessions around the campfire.

The residency was an opportunity for Rizoma to draw on Ljudmila's deep institutional knowledge of running artist programmes, open-source culture, and creative technology infrastructure, while Luka used the rural setting for creative experimentation away from the city.

As a lasting outcome of the exchange, Ljudmila donated a geodesic dome to Rizoma, expanding the site's capacity for hosting workshops, performances and gatherings.
