Bioacoustics & Ecological Informatics
We currently are collecting data based on local observations but also developing technological solutions for ecosystem monitoring including bioacoustic monitoring and DIY nature cams based on open source systems.
The motivation for this work is threefold:
- to better understand our local situation
- to contribute as citizen scientists to a global conservation research project
- to inform the art/science/computing projects we develop in our field lab.
We are currently working on a bioacoustic environmental monitoring station based on the Cornell University's BirdNet https://birdnet.cornell.edu. Birdnet is an AI / Machine Learning project for bioacoustic monitoring and primarily bird identification though we are working on training the machine learning algorithm to include creatures we hear in the woods.
